Project Start Date – November 23, 2019
The LZHS REACT plans activities and advocates for an environmentally friendly school and community.
They have chosen, to work with Ancient Oaks Foundation, to clear the nearly 1 acre lot that sits on the side of the school just off Midlothian Road, and between the senior parking lot and the PAC parking lot. This is green space that has several oak trees that are currently being invaded with unwanted buckthorn, which doesn’t allow the oak trees to grow or native colors to blossom.
This oak remnant has been used by Mrs. Gyarmaty as part of an environmental unit. The restoration of this area can be a big boost for the environmental education of the students as it makes the area more accessible for outdoor exploration.
Phase One will be buckthorn removal
Phase Two will be seeding with native grass and flower seeds
Phase Three will be buckthorn resprout removal
AOF will be on site to help direct the student volunteers.
We will also provide native grass and flower seeds.
